Construction & Permit Drawings
Depending on whom you contract with (a Design/Build Firm, Designer or Architect) you will receive a different interpretation of what should be included within a standard set of Construction & Permit Drawings. The majority of people or firms you speak with, will attempt to provide the least amount of information within the drawings as possible, stating, "oh, that information is within the specifications", or, "oh, that information is "normal and customary" and does not need to be included" or, the Contractor usually knows what to do there".
When there are no issues on the project, these answers can be viewed as correct. When there is an issue and the information is not specific enough, detailed enough or there is just not enough information there....well, you get the picture.
When you set your agreement with your Designer or Architect, you will need to define and understand whether they will be providing, what is called, Construction Administration as part of their fee. Construction Admistration is follow up after completion of the drawings to solke design issues, conflicts & questions. If Construction Administration is not included ,or there is an aditional cost, review the following set of standards for what should be contained within a typical set of Construction & Permit Drawings.
